From Ayuthaya
How can I turn a normal Photoshop font into an outline with transparent fill?

That is, standard type fonts like Bookman or Antiqua, rather than Desdemona, which is already designed as an outlined font. I know there’s a way to do it, because I’ve seen an outline made from the Ayuthaya font, but I haven’t been able to recreate the effect myself.

At first, I tried just changing the text layer transparency and adding a drop shadow… Heh. For obvious reasons, that didn’t work.

So, what should I try next?

Outline the layer in your blending options (the little circle f in your layers box). Then create a new layer and using your selection wand, click “use all layers” and make sure “continuous” is not checked. Then when you highlight the outline, go to edit>copy all layers and then paste the outline only into a new layer.
